Support of activities of civil society organisations and the third sector - as the most active and successful champions of democratic development - is one of the key components of development and introduction of an efficient counter-corruption system. To this end, in December 2006, with support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), a new project was launched - Promoting Active Citizen Engagement in Combating Corruption in Ukraine (PACE). The project is implemented by Management Systems International (MSI), in partnership with Ukraine-USA Foundation, Counterpart Creative Centre, Kyiv International Institute of Sociology and the Centre for Ukrainian Reform Education.
The key components of the project incorporate support of advocacy and monitoring of public authorities by the civil society. One of initial steps of the Project was dedicated to assessment of needs of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) of Ukraine by means of broad dissemination of questionnaires for self-completion and conducting focus groups with representatives of non-governmental organisations of all regions of the country. Findings of the study will be used for purposes of the Project.
