Author’s position and qualified management permit Dzerkalo Tyzhnia publish popular journalist investigations

Ten out of 17 editors- participants of the project «Increasing the attractiveness of journalistic investigations to modern Ukrainian media» expressed their desire to pay a visit to editorial office of the newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnia. 

Ukrainian Association of Periodic Press Publishers and ACTION organized the visit on December 1, 2008.

Volodymyr Mostovyy (Chief Editor, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia), Sergiy Rakhmanin (Political Section Editor),  Alla Yeremenko (Economic Safety Section Editor) and Andriy Marusov (freelance correspondent) talked to editors-investigators about inner workings of the weekly newspaper Dzerklao Tyzhnia.

It is impossible not to note that the publication uses author’s approach while preparing editorial materials.  At the same time 3 highly qualified editors conduct investigations, combining their editorial and investigative functions.

Volodymyr Mostovyy:  Dzerkalo Tyzhnia encourages its authors to express their own views on the topic instead of usual neutrality. Since, every employee of the editorial office is both a journalist and a citizen, and has his or her own position.  Thus, our function as management comes to discussions of the future publication, sources of information and ways of presenting the material.  Altogether, we are open to a dialogue with colleagues sending in investigations – editorial staff considers them all.  The main criterion for selection– authenticity of information». 

The visit was organized by the Association of the Periodic Press Publishers and ACTION and conducted as a part of the “Increasing the attractiveness of journalistic investigations to modern Ukrainian media” .

The project is being implemented from September 2008 to February 2009.
