Presentation of the National Survey "Corruption and Business Regulations in Ukraine: Construction and Land Transactions Permits"

Ukrainians Feel More Corruption, but Experience Slightly Less

The most complex anti-corruption research in Ukraine finds that while Corruption remains very widespread, there are conflicting trends: while citizens perceived an increase in corruption over the last two years, the survey also finds that experiences have becomes slightly less frequent (67% had corruption experience in 2007, and 62,5% in 2009). The survey also found a drastic drop in trust toward all government institutions and their willingness to fight corruption.

The complex survey is the largest and most sophisticated measurement of corruption in Ukraine’s history and goes into tremendous detail to study how corruption changes over time. It allows for an unprecedented depth in the understanding of corruption and moves away from simple perception and rumor-based studies. The results compare three surveys on corruption between 2007 and 2009 to monitor corruption trends over time and will be released for the first time at the presentation.
